Spiced Air-Fried Soya Chunks


A protein-rich vegetarian snack made with marinated soya chunks and crisped to perfection in the air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups soya chunks
  • Hot water (for soaking)
  • Cold water (for second soak)
  • 1.5 cups plain yogurt
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (or 1 tsp fresh garlic paste)
  • ½ tsp ginger powder (or 1 tsp fresh ginger paste)
  • ¼ tsp garam masala

Instructions

  1. Prep the Soya Chunks:
    • Soak soya chunks in hot water for 1 hour.
    • After soaking, squeeze out the water completely.
    • Rinse and soak the chunks again in cold water for 5 minutes.
    • Squeeze out the water thoroughly once more. Set aside.
  2. Make the Marinade:
    • In a mixing bowl, add yogurt, salt, red chili powder, black pepper, cumin powder, garlic, ginger, and garam masala.
    • Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. Marinate the Soya:
    • Add the drained soya chunks to the marinade.
    • Mix well to ensure all chunks are evenly coated.
    • Cover and let marinate for at least 30 minutes (2 hours is ideal for deeper flavor).
  4. Air Fry:
    • Preheat the air fryer to 385°F (196°C).
    • Place the marinated soya chunks in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
    • Air fry for 10–12 minutes, shaking or stirring halfway through for even cooking.
    • Cook until golden and slightly crispy on the edges.

Serving Suggestions

Serve hot with green chutney or yogurt dip.

Add to grain bowls, wraps, or use as a protein topping for salads.

Soya chunks are high in protein and fiber, making this dish ideal for vegetarians or those looking to increase their plant-based protein intake.
Using low-fat yogurt can reduce calories further if desired.
